The player must be left handed (or a righty playing a left handed banjo upside down).  Is that a Brawley, Terry?

Tom, the photographic processes of the day resulted in the photographs being a mirror image.  therefore, to look like you were playing right handed banjo players would hold the banjo upside down.  So this player is a right handed player holding a right handed banjo upside down.  Vanity, vanity, all is vanity...
