Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

I finally stopped carving and started to put some finish on this banjo. Linseed oil. I hope that was not a mistake!

Has the pure linseed oil worked out well for you as a finish?  Or did you mix it with anything?

I used Tru-Oil, which is a gun stock finish available at my local Walmart. It worked out very well. I applied quite a few coats. I guess it gets more polished as you continually touch the wood with your hands. I am

leaving it alone, not buffing it or anything, for now. After a month or more, I may buff a bit . This may be too glossy for folks who want their banjo to look like a relic form the 1840's. My banjo build is NOT a replica of anything, so the shininess does not bother me.
