Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

Playing great music with everybody in that funky old barn on the Summer Solstice.

Can't wait.

I'm totally excited, Tim!

I'm hoping there will be interspersed opportunities to play some of the standard simpler tunes slooowly, and for quite a few times through, for the benefit of new learners.

I'm just bumbling along and am going to feel so, well... rank!    =8-*

Not sure how things work, but I'm certain a terrific time will be had by all!

I didn't even think about the fact that it would be the Summer Solstice....how appropriate for a threshing barn!

It's a great vibe with music played at all levels.

No fingers left behind.

Yes.

What Tim said, definitely!

Is anyone else planning to go to the O'Hurley General store jam in Shepardstown on thursday night?

If not, guess I may be throwing myself into the brink there on my own, but what the heck!  If anyone comes there and sees me, please introduce yourself, it'd be nice to have a kindred soul.  :)    Just bringing my plain little mountain banjo for that.

Not sure what tomorrow night holds in store for Scooter and I, it depends on when we get into town - but if we wind up there I'll keep an eye out!

Do you know if anyone is going to be selling extra strings? I'm looking through my stash for my Boucher (made by George Wunderlich) and I've got a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th strings, but no 1st or 5th. That would be great if someone was thinking of bringing some, but wasn't sure if anyone needed them. :)

See you folks tomorrow.

Man, I just love that crazy funky barn.

Those Clementine tangerines were a real lifesaving nutritional energy treat.  And the coffee was good!

Beautiful breezy barn, loved the light coming through the boards, and knowing all the people from long ago who had walked about talking and working, maybe dancing or making music, right there, where we were now playing.

I remember pulling up after dinner and seeing the light coming through the boards.....then a ton of jamming, and walking up the hill from the other side. The place still glowed. It is the best kind of music to happen in that place. It may grow and change, but will not improve.

You all are painting an very wonderful image. I'm sure the spirits welcome the energy you all create. I really hope I make it there next year.

That barn is a magical place in the evening.  Sitting just outside after sunset, seeing the warm light from within, listening to the pleasant cacophony of gut strung banjos, and watching the fireflies come out in the gloaming... it really doesn't get much better than that.  You don't technically *need* a historic 19th century barn in which to get together and play this stuff, but it sure adds a lot to the experience.
