The raw rims are bent, glued at the scarf joint, with the scarf joint area sanded, and otherwise left unsanded or unshaped, and of course, unfinished.

The tackhead rim is sanded to 150 grit, the top and back edges rounded over, and the goatskin installed with upholstery tacks and glue.  In addition, there are holes bored for the dowel stick in the tail (1/2") and heel sides (3/4" square) of the rim.  The heel hole is through the scarf joint.

All joints are glued with hide glue for authenticity.
