Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

Anyone here ever use unusual skins on their banjos?

Just curious.  Any members here actually made or own(ed) banjos with 'not' the usual run-of-the-mill calf or goat skin heads?

I don't mean banjos you've heard about or read about.  I mean that YOU actually made or owned and played on.

Heads with the fur still on?  Real parchment or vellum?  Elk or buffalo?

Woodchuck/groundhog, rabbit, or raccoon?  Cat? {{{shudder}}}

Pictures (of YOUR banjo, not just internet stuff you found online) are worth extra points.

:D

Ah, well I guess we're all in danger anyway due to our calf and goatskin heads then.  =8-o

Maybe we should use secret code language...and always refer to our 'naugahyde' heads.  lol

Come to think of it, I'd probably rather be referred to as a 'naugahyde head' rather than as a skinhead.
