Machine Poetry.-Oh, Ladies All! and Old 76.mpg

"Machine Poetry"....a debated topic as to it's purpose and origin.

A novel type of minstrel music whose humor belongs to the Dadaist variety. It's sparse, monotonous melody-a babble on a single tone, fizzling out into prose-lends a touch of idiocy to the story. The name of the genre can be traced to one of Emmett's English song sheets of about 1844, entitled "History ob de World"

from "Dan Emmett and the Rise of Early Negro Minstrelsy" by Hans Nathan.

Intriguing, and totally wierd...but somehow attractive.

This leads into a spontaneous version of "Old 76" from the Briggs' Book of 1855..

Does the fact that I know at least TWO people who sing this song mean I'm leading an "alternate lifestyle"
