Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

This is a Strathspey from Kerr's Collection of Merry Melodies ( Scotland ) played on a fretless Minstrel banjo tuned to dGDF#A. I have "straightened" out the dotted rhythms.

I love how that chord hangs in the air.

Little bit like Spanish Dance. Not written in...but implied ( to my ear )

As to the Pompey Ran Away discussion - If you took this tune that Tim found and put it in 3/4 and dropped a few notes, it would be extremely similar in feel and even in notes, and it is a Scottish Strathspey! Unfortunately, two hundred years of musical acculturation between black and white seems impossible to untangle.
