Briggs' Yankee Doodle Final Variation.wmv

A quick example of the final variation of "Yankee Doodle" in the Briggs' Banjo Instructor, played slowly to demonstrate the "Strikes" in the song. Funny how the "parts" are different from the "whole' when it flows together.

Always nice to be reminded of this. I started playing it again today and found that I've forgotten...

Even though there are groups of 3 notes as triplets, the duple motion of the hand within creates a most interesting effect. This is an attractive element of Stroke Style ( to me anyway ) in that it displaces accents in a subtle way...not just in triplets , but as it carries over phrases and bar lines.

I'm working on using your left hand finger positions for Measures 2,4 and 9. Never played it that way before, but it does make those rippling notes smoother.
