Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

Very early melody (c. 1837...or was it 1815?) and important in the development of early Minstrelsy.

Neat tune - where did it come from? The first part is a lot like an English morris dance tune called London Pride .
(Check the 2:00 mark in this medley - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55Ep2M8b37w ) The second part, not so much, but still the same feel. Morris dancers also have a traditional dance to the tune "Such A Gettin' Upstairs" Chicken or egg? I have a feeling these tunes were going in both directions in the mid-19th century.

Ian, once again, thanks for the enrichment of a tune. My source was an Omnibus by Howe (photo posted) crossed with the Levy Collection...I played it quite directly from the Omnibus - Briggsthink.
