Hi Chuck, thanks for the info on the tension nuts, I will do something practical when i get to that stage. I see there are a few variations on the old photos here and there, some that protrude below the wooden band even.. I expect there will need to be some viable bearing surface where the nut meets the wood..well that's in the future..  at the moment it's the wood I'm looking for. We have a very beautiful hardwood here called Puriri, a member of the Vitex family. I'll give it a try.. cheers   Don
