I thought maybe it was a lil pitch pipe but it deff resembles the watch keys on the other post tho

That the subject in this painting is accoutred with a watch chain leads to a natural conclusion that he is carrying a watch as well.  Since a requisite winding implement is not seen attached to the chain itself, as was customary, the results of Butch Wunderlich's excellent research and Dan'l's diligence, lend support to the supposition that the fob is indeed an ornate winder as opposed to a mouthpiece.  I'm also persuaded that the banjo is a double-headed rig, possibly a Boucher, in that the winder is carried apart from the chain and positioned away from the back of the instrument, ostensibly to prevent damage to the second head.  Thoughts?
