The strings are crushed nylon strings, I did want to put gut onto it but "Clifford Essex" (an online uk supplier) advised me that crushed nylon was the way to go. Interesting strings nice feel, almost like gut. You can also see genuine 19th century ingrained dirt on the ivory inlay.
