Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

This is the vise/bender that my father had at his blacksmith shop years ago and never used/ Now I have a reason to take it out of the box!

That is a very interesting bender... much simpler and more comopact than most I've seen.

It took me a few looks to figure it out but it looks like a standard vise with three holes drilled in it and wheels installed on threaded bolts... and a crank.... Hmmmmm.... Kind of ingenious... May be able to make one of those... Or maybe not.

That's exactly what it is. It was designed and sold as a metal bending vise and came with a set of tubing bending rollersr as well. In fact that is what I will use to roll the the flesh hoop this weekend. Hope to have the banjo done and photos of the finished product up by Sunday!

Btw, it is very sensitive to adjustment. A quarter turn and the hoop shrinks exponentially in diameter.
