Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

Very clear photo, better than I've ever seen. Check out the bolt holding his tailpiece on. After close examination, George did one heck of a job on my banjo.

Matt Peel was a performer turned impresario who led the Campbell Minstrels with whom Converse toured all over the country in 1858.  Matt Peel died soon thereafter and the troupe became known as "Mrs. Matt Peel's Campbell Minstrels."  Tommy Peel was a top-flight jig dancer who also died young, age 27 in 1869.

He's definitely dressed for dancing rather than concert promoting. Thanks for the clarification gents.

Knowing just where to turn for this type of information could suggest that one may be leading an "alternate lifestyle".
