Looks great - Are the fret markers just shallow saw cuts?

yes, they are very thin, very shallow cuts with a flush-cut saw. i then fill them and sand them flat--these incised frets often fill with dirt and grim over the years anyhow, so i do that to get a jump on the process. you can still feel them, ever-so-slightly, under your fingers as you play if you try really hard to notice.
