Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

The officer at the head of column just left of photo center is me. If you look at the left side of my hip you can just make out the head of the banjo. I slung it by a strap over my left shoulder. The banjo neck dangles downward. During marches like this, I often forget it's there. I broke it out during an extended water stop. Setting it into the hot sun while I killed a canteen and visited a tree was sufficient time to dry the head and make the banjo playable.

Right on Silas. that's cool to see your Banjo out there in the ranks. Where are you guys at?

Photo was captured while we marched through the Shiloh Nat'l Battlefield Park from the actual Pittsburg Landing to the reenactment site.  Distance was somewhere around 6.5 miles, but the heat and humidity made it seem twice that.

I am buried back in the middle of the column. Company H. Good times to be sure. I didn't attempt to take a banjo to this event. I was too tired to play any how.
