For enthusiasts of early banjo
No-name mahogany guitar
Anyone care to venture an opinion about what this is?
The guitar is bound with what I think is celluloid. It has a slightly compensated bridge, but I can't actually remember if I got it that way. I've had it since about 1980 and had some work done on it just after I got it. At some point the one-piece back had turned itself into a three-piece back! The neck is very triangular in profile. It still plays nicely with gut, nylon or extra-light steel strings. I had it down to the AEBG a couple of years ago, but never got it out of the case. Now that I've "got the guts" maybe I'll bring it down again in June.

The tuners have brass gears and worms on steel plates. Thinking back 30 + years (quite a few guitars ago) I'm pretty sure that getting a new bridge and saddle made was one of the repairs I had done on this when I got it. The original saddle was split.

Interested to read Dan'ls p.s. I bought what I believed to be a Parlour Guitar a few weeks ago, and need to find out more about it. Bit pushed for time today but will post pics, and description as soon as I can.

I believe I've answered my own question. I did a little Googling around and I think it may well be a Sromberg-Voisenet from about 1920. Newer than I'd thought.

Why change if it works, eh?
Those are nice pictures, not the same ones I saw. I found one very similar but with fancier position markers.
