Hello,
This is my first time joining an internet group. I hope that this introduction is not out of order.
I have been playing the Fiddle for 30+ years, and met Joe Ayers 20 years ago at a Civil War reenactment. Joe was very helpful and encouraging. This chance encounter really sparked my interest in the music of the "Minstrel Era".
About one year ago I decided that I needed to learn to play the Banjo while I still have the ability to memorize music. I was lucky indeed to find an instructor ( Mark Weems ) nearby in Durham who is not only a gifted performer, but also possess the "people skills" inherent in all great teachers.
I was a participant at the Joe Ayers workshop last weekend where I met one of your members, Rob Morrison.
Not wishing to stand on the bank and watch I have decided to jump in with both feet and recently ordered a Boucher model banjo from James Hartel.
After viewing this site for several weeks ( Is it called "Lurking" ? ) it appears that this may be a rather amiable bunch to associate with, so here I am.
I am 59 years old and did not grow up with a computer and so beg your pardon for my lack of skill in using one.
