Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

I was able to get ahold of some of the music in the original Dan Emmett manuscript collection. Many of the tunes are found in the Hans Nathan collection, but I played through the additional ones...written in his own hand. They are lively, unusual, and often quite syncopated. As with the others....most likely fiddle music. I'll share a few I found interesting and banjo friendly.

Yes! Do it!

I'll put up a few more.....don't want to burn people out. I know I get rather enthusiastic, and I apologize.

I wish some fiddlers would jump onto this site, and provide interpretations. I do not think a banjo arrangement is the best thing to copy a fiddle player. It kind of becomes a whole other thing. The banjo gives it a new feel, and they do not compare. Yes, the same notes, but so many things separate them. What you get is something delightfully different. We should keep that in mind as we take on the repertoire. Buckley books are FILLED with pure fiddle tunes, and our first "banjo" book started that way too....as sourced from other instruments.
