Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

Howdy,
I have been watching some of oldcermona's videos, and I was wondering how I can learn to play the waltz style stuff like "Minor Waltz, by S. S. Stewart" and "Funeral March, by Frank B. Converse"

Are those tunes considered minstrel banjo or are they in a different genre?

Thanks a lot,
Josh

Joshua, both of those tunes are fingerstyle tunes from the 1880's and 90's, and are considered more in the "classic" genre than in the "minstrel" or stroke genre.
Oh okay.  Are there any books out there that I could get to learn the classic finger style?
I am also leaning heavily toward the idea of getting gut strings for my 5sting Rover.  What do yall recommend for gut strings for a newer type banjo?

Josh. You may want to pay this site a visit. It is similar to this one, but deals more specifically with what you just mentioned.

There is a lot of crossover in any of the banjo books available after 1860...Buckley's and Converse.
