This is my new ash Boucher banjo. The wood came from left over barn building lumber cut from the woods in my back yard. I used Terry's patterns and tools and just today learned Circus Jig. I love Minstrel Banjos! I put boiled linseed oil on the wood, then amber shellac. I went for the natural look. It's a big fattie. It has a 13 inch rim and a ball bat neck - just right for my big paws.

Awesome banjo! Love the natural look and the back story of where it came from. Like our dining room table's wood made by my brother-in-law out of black walnut found in a barn on their grandma's property in Ohio.
Thanks for the nice comment Matthew! Distressed wood is the best :) I hope he used a mask when he made it, I hear that black walnut is poisonous! But hey I bet the table looks amazing :)
I'll have to ask him about the mask! I'll see him soon. Wonder if it's a mater of if the walnut is old and dry or freshly saw? hmmmm Now I'm curious.
