Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

How about doing a tune where the banjo part doesn't seem to go well with the vocal? There are three that come to mind - Gal with the Blue Dress On, Picayune Butler, and Jenny Get Your Hoe Cake. I have a devil of a time trying to sing the tune while playing the published lines, so I alter things to make the song work for me. I'd be curious to see how people do these.

Okay, Rob has suggested a "Tune of the Week" again, and brought up "Carolina Reel" from Converse Analytical. I'm in! This is a great chance to see all the fingerings...plants and hammers...at work on an old style Stroke Tune. (See Briggs' "Get Up In The Morning"). Did he put all those tunes in there on purpose, to make us look back on the early stuff ? Hmmm. Of course if it is played without the fingerings, it still works, but if you partake in F.B.'s careful notes, you are in for a real time travel treat!
