The Old Jonny Booker Band plays Early American music of the Old South, music popular from 1776 through the Civil War, on period instruments and in period dress. Members and instrumentation includes: Mark Weems (of the North Carolina School of Traditional Music, Little Windows, Stillhouse Bottom Band) on banjo, fiddle, guitar and vocals, James Pentecost on banjo, bones, and jawbone, and Mike Wesley (Doc Branch Band) on guitar and vocals.
They will play several pieces and discuss the development of diverse instruments that were being played in our region of the country in the late 18th century up to the time of the Civil War. Instruments will include 4 string gourd banjo, bones, jawbone, quills, fiddle, parlor guitar, and drums. Then stick around for a short called dance of that time period.
