Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

The Strychnine Banjo--program in Sacramento, Aug. 16, 12:30, Sacramento Public Library

Forgive the advertisement, but I trust this will be of interest to folks here who might attend. The book--THE STRYCHNINE BANJO- can be purchased from my Mercantile at nevadamusic.com

It's taken a while to get the story on Charley Rhoades, Jake Wallace and "The Days of '49". But here it is. Pretty wonderful tales. I'm not the best minstrel banjo player in the world. But story more than makes up for that.

Here's some text in case the flyer doesn't show:

THE STRYCHNINE BANJO-Sacramento Public Library August 16, 12:30 pm. Tunes on the mid-19th century banjo, the photos and stories of Jake Wallace and Charley Rhoades and that anthem of the gold rush, “The Days of ‘49”.

Thanks. The focus of the book is mostly the 1860s. The leading characters arrived in California about 1852. And we're young. They became truly professional in the 60s. Rhoades played a 1867 Dobson in 68. Some really interesting photos of 1860s banjos played here
Off to Bodie Saturday. First outing with the book.
