From the 1851 Howe's Instructor for the Guitar. A peek at one of the earliest publications for pop guitar. Relies heavily upon the Classical influence...especially carulli.

Hi Tim,
Inspired by this video, I put a set of real gut strings on an old mahogany parlor guitar I have, and have been taking a run at some of the tunes in the Howe's guitar book. (You're such a bad influence!) I noticed the PDF of the book that I downloaded from the Internet Archive is missing some pages — including the one this tune is on. Is there another online source of this book anywhere?
By the way, the Aquila gut guitar strings are great on this instrument. I'm not sure how old it is. I've always guessed 1880s or 90s. Maybe I'll post a picture.
I got mine from Brown. If you need some pages let me know.
I still want to get the Charlie Converse book...been too lazy to figure out how to get it from that source.
Thanks Tim - I'll check on the Brown site.
Maybe more recording with the guitar, but no CD...unless this charlie Converse book knocks my soxs off. I think we may see a link in arranging influences with his bro!
Ian bell....I forgot where you mentioned that you needed a few pages...or even which they were. I am guessing. Sorry they are so dark. I took them off a microfilm in a library...awful. let's see...how do i get a PDF up here.
Pages are fine Tim thanks. Also thanks for the fix-up offer Dan'l — they're good enough for me as is.
It's really fun stuff to play - perfect for an old folky fingerpicker who'd never tried reading any real guitar music.
