So I had to google how to "pinch" a banjo. I turns out that according to the rules of bluegrass when one plays a two note harmony or three note chord it goes by a special name "pinching." Since Parker recorded before bluegrass had a strict set of rules and names I think he is just playing a root note followed by a cord which is basic accompaniment from the earliest of popular music.
At any rate I recommend the full album put out by B.A.C.M.. It comes with a nicely written short bio including that he played plectrum banjos and regular banjos with the fifth string removed.
Pinching, pulling off, hammering on... these terms are so bawdy!
