Very cool Mark. 1588...man, that's 'early music' for sure!
I like how when you do the version without the thumb string, you fill that 'missing' 5th string rhythm moment with the return stroke of the pick... thus preserving the feel of what we banjoists would usually expect, being most familiar with our syncopated thumb strings.
