There's an old-time fiddle tune "Waterbound" which sometimes is performed with lyrics like "Chickens crowing in an old plowed field" and the chorus of "waterbound I can't get home down in North Caroliona". The band was spending a lot of time at Ft. Delaware, located on Pea Patch Island in the middle of the Delaware River. I started thinking about the whole prisoner experience and put the lyrics together. So I guess the answer to the question you are asking is that the provenance is about 1995 or so. The line about the barber chair and dance on air referred to the actual situation where a skilled prisoner would offer hair-cuts for prisoners or guards. Glad you like our sound! Thanks. Dave

I hope you can make it to the island this season. I am there now on Saturdays. Beginning June 13 thru the end of August, I am there Thurs and Sat.
Yes, I could not pass up having Terry help me with what I saw as a banjo that would fit that setting, for me. Better than the Deering I have. I have not taken her there yet, too damp... I am hoping later, in the season, it will be hotter and less damp...
