Ms. Sweeney, I hope I'm not patronizing, but since you're a decendent of JW and Sam Sweeney, I thought I would share--A young George Swaine Buckley studied under JWS in the early 1840's, and performed as the "young Joe Sweeney" (perhaps to JW's ire). George Swaine and his father James Buckley published several early method books for banjo, including Phil. Rice's Correct Banjo Method, 1858, Buckley's New Banjo Book, 1860, and Buckley's Guide for the Banjo, 1868. So in a sense, when we hear that music we're hearing Joel Walker Sweeney. Pretty cool stuff.
Good to know, Carl! By the way, I'm a big fan of your Youtube videos. I'm currently starting with Briggs' stuff so I've been enjoying your Keemo Kimo quite a bit!
Thank you! I hope you know about our Antietam Early Banjo Gathering held the third weekend of June at the Pry House barn on the battlefield. Next one's gonna be a doozy! Hope you can make it.
