Bob, Joel, and Dan'l--Thanks for the useful information.  I have one of Charlie's banjos, the one with the tone ring outside the rim.  Quite an inventive family that.  I thought Minnie wasn't a sister due to the "Mrs."  It still amuses and astounds me that her invention was featured in Scientific America.
