I've just ordered this from Nate Calkin, and await its arrival. Now on the hunt for suitable repertoire. Any recommendations?

Rob, you're always a surprise. I think you'll enjoy the gourd banjo. Same repertoire...different character. I like all the stuff in the Rice Book especially..lots of thumb. Good luck sitting with this thing. It's a slippery little devil.

I surprise myself too! Not to mention my long-suffering wife. Well, it's my 50th birthday today, and I thought I would treat myself to something new. I'm experimenting with stroke and clawhammer styles, and a gourd banjo is the cheapest way into playing the repertoire on a suitable-ish instrument. I liked your videos and recordings of your gourd, and that inspired me to go down this route. We'll see...

Cool, Rob. I have played a few gourdies and they always have a unique sound to them. I've got one about 80% complete, hanging in my shop and three more canteen gourds laying about to make more. One of these days I'll finish them!
