Only 18 days left before this historic event. Join us in the village of Appomattox Court House. Here the echoes of banjos along the same roads, on the same porches & in the same buildings where they were heard over 175 years ago! If you want to have an opportunity to be one of the many early, minstrel, Civil War era banjo players participating in this event- please contact me (David Wooldridge) or Mark Weems. We are looking for as many banjo players as we can get to fill up the porch of the National Park's Clover Hill Tavern (where Joel is documented as having played) for the12PM Gubernatorial Proclamation of " Joel Sweeney & the Banjo Day." Scheduled to be present for this historic event group photograph are Joe Ayers, Eddie Adcock amond others. Period camping in the Park is possible. All efforts are to raise awareness about the Park's banjo history, restore Sweeney family sites & add banjo history interpretive signage along a planned history trail through the Park.
