Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

Same arrangement. Different photographer. Bridge was removed in an effort to minimize tension and give the gut strings a chance to survive the overnight conditions.

The buckle tailpiece is a little jarring to look at, but I suppose it's quite plausible for a "field" instrument.

That was exactly the idea why I used a Georgia frame buckle.  Reenactors notice it pretty quickly.  I rather like this buckle because it makes the banjo a different appearance than other banjos.

This is my field banjo.  The good one Terry made me is way too heavy for field use ; however, I might bring the double head Sweeney to Perryville.
