Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

First trip to an elementary school for my new 13" Prust banjo. Its part of the program was a big hit with the kids. None had ever seen one like it -- in fact, many of them told me they had never seen any banjo at all. They got a kick out of the difference between the sound of the low-tuned early banjo and my modern Lee open-back. Old Joe, played fairly faithfully from the Brigg's 1855 tutor had them rockin' and rollin' . Through the day I saw about 300 kids from K-5th grade in six 45-minute storytelling/banjoplaying sets.

The finish on the Prust's neck was fairly rough, so I stripped it and refinished it with boiled linseed oil. It's smooth as glass, now. The Prust's volume was more than enough for the venue. The wireless lavaliere microphone I'm wearing transmitted to receivers worn by a handful of deaf-education kids who attend the school.
