Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

My homemade gourd sander. An old washing machine motor in a box with the shaft through the top secured to a pulley, with screws through the pulley into a 3/4" plywood disc with coarse sandpaper. After I sabre saw (with a fine metal cutting blade) the lid off a gourd, I even the opening of the gourd on this, in about 1 minute.

In 200 years, some archaeologist is going to find this in the corner of your perfectly-preserved, sealed workshop.

After much research and scholarly debate it'll end up in the Michigan State Museum. I can't wait to see what they put on the label.

"Knuckle Sharpener"

People who don't have any better sense than to build their own reflecting telescopes have a very similar gadget, for grinding the mirror.  I used to read about them in Sky and Telescope magazine.
