Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

What was I thinking??? Been focused on getting this Converse guitar book, and proceeded to ignore the fine LOC guitar solos he had out in sheet music. Duh!!! Well, time to get them, play them. They seem clean, well arranged, and not too difficult....trademarks of his brother's work for the banjo.

I hope you all don't mind going a little bit away from the banjo stuff....but somehow I think this will give some perspective to the written page of mid 19th Century banjo.

More power to ya. There is a lot of stuff out there about Charles Crozat Converse. Let's get busy!

Here's an interesting tidbit with CC Converse apparently a little miffed at Mark Twain...and Twain backing down.

Well, I got the book. I'll start posting some of it, if anybody is interested in hearing it. They are very well arranged pieces, geared toward elementary to intermediate level players. If anything is similar about the Converse boys, it is their discipline for clarity and detail. One thing about the guitar is that there were already things in place. This stuff rides piggyback to the concepts of Sor and other 19th century Classical guitarist.

By the way, here is everything anyone could ever want to know about Charles Crozat Converse.
