Nice. You don't hear that one often. This song was a Prime Mover, was it not? Nice melody, no doubt. Good story for discussion at a performance if need be....it's everything that is wrong with Minstrelsy.

About time someone tried this!   Very nice job to boot!

Yes...Al and I were just discussing it....getting ready to try it. Another one I've never heard ( I've done it instrumentally, but no lyrics yet) is Back Side Albany. It predates them all.

Well done!

This is a beautiful tune.

Thanks, Al

In reading on the site about this song about a year ago, it seemed that many people out there had never heard it and wanted to. Thought I'd try it. It's one of the fantastic pieces found in the Banjo Preceptor.

Great lyrics in that book.

Well, I'm always interested in parodies that reflect the "current" events. On this site,  http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/amsshtml/amsshome.html

you can find some good lyrics from the slaves point of view toward the end of the CW.

Here is one actually played directly from the Gumbo Chaff Banjo Preceptor. What great banjo music!
