I really like the tempo, it's stately.  This looks like a good fingering and timing exercise, yet another one onto my 'to learn' pile!

Great, as ever.... looks tricky

@flatfoot johnny thanks, a little bit at first - one of those tunes where the thumb is doing most of the work...

Compare to the rhythmic variation found in Buckley 1860...interesting.

@tim twiss, is that the Jim Crow Jig, p. 21?

Comment by Rob Morrison on July 12, 2012 at 9:51am

Paul--

I learned this tune as the "Jim Crow Jig" many years ago out of the Bob Flesher book.  I like to play it because it's what I call a "thumb twister."  I'm just now working on "Gumbo Chaff," another "thumb twister," taken from Joseph Weidlich's "Early Minstrel Banjo."  I believe it's from Elias Howe.--Rob Morrison

Thanks Rob.  I see it has the dotted notes.  I'll have to try it that way.

That's really pretty, Paul.  And played cleanly, with a nice lilt.  :)

Thanks Strumelia.  btw Mr. Boker tells me we're gonna be jammin at Black Creek next year...

Who can we get to play bones and tambo for us?   :)    Maybe we can convince Gil S. to come!  I happen to know he has a big Bell minstrel tambo....
