For enthusiasts of early banjo

A song I wrote using my Bell banjo and a 1850 martin guitar. if this works out will post a actual song from the past. thanks. It's about my GG grandfather Abner Boling, who was a pow at Andersonville, and then on board the Sultana when it exploded.

Curtis, sounds good! I have often thought of playing a tribute to my Greatgrandfather; he too was a Ky cavalryman. 17 yr. old member of the 8thky CSA. And like your ancestor was a POW....Camp Douglas, with others of J.H. Morgan's men. Did your GG survive the Sultana explosion?

Thanks Sonny, Abner was only 13 when he joined the 4 Ky Cav.  he did survive the Sultana explosion.  His photo appears in the video a couple of times.   He and his wife are seen in front of there home in the Indian Nations just across the river from Fort Gibson, that home was built and owned by Sam Houston before Abner.   The photo of the man looking at the grave is Abner standing in front of his wife Nancy's grave.   Was your 8th Ky CSA member from Ky, if so what part.  that was certainly a very interesting area E. Ky. during the war.  I play on attending the Sultana reunion this april in Franklin.

He was from the Bluegrass region, eastern Franklin co., near Frankfort. He survived the war, but his brother died at Camp Douglas in Chicago. You are right about eastern Ky.....more divided sympathies.

Did he fight at Doctors Creek Ky?   I was up there last year for the reenactment.    You should write a song about him.
