Does this use steel strings?  Are those sliding gut frets?

I love to experiment too.  Am currently working hard on pipe & tabor.  Oy, talk about a learning curve.   lol

Yes, way cool, sliding gut frets that can change the scale - Persian music is very complicated. From what I understand, these instruments have had wire strings since the 1200's!
