Never heard of these, is it a relative of the dulcimer?

It's one of the antecedents/ancestors of the American Appalachian ("mountain") dulcimer. Earliest references from 1600s Sweden. The name comes from the German word for bumblebees...referring to the strong hum of the many drone strings.
