Welcome, Valerie: This is Roberta Perkins in Delaware. I seldom add or comment; mostly listen and learn. Lots of good info and help here. And the learning is fun...
Welcome!!! Hopefully you will find it as fascinating as I do. I can't seem to get enough of this music. The videos are great, and the information garnered is invaluable.
Well, after about 18 years of talking about it I decided to pick up a banjo and learn. It's been about two years, and I've been focusing on bluegrass music because it is so accessible in my area.
I actually fought this era of banjo music because I struggle with the exploitation of black people and women. However, as a life-longer learner, and as a music teacher I realized I have been cheating my self of a deeper level of understanding. I just finished Suwannee Banjo Camp where I met Greg Adams. He has such a lovely approach to teaching that I decided to take the plunge.
So, I have started to make a long list of reading to do. But, I know that once I start to play and understand the music I will have a lot more fun.

I have just realized that I need to consume as much banjo information that I can. Thank you all for the welcomes.
