I have been working on classic style with my antique banjos. When I heard this song, I had to learn it. I learned it by ear on a Supertone banjo. So since Andy Chase played it on classic banjo and Paul Draper played it on minstrel banjo already, I guess will try it on early gourd banjo. I did not do to good on this one. The horse hair strings are also very sensitive.

I think you did an admirable job with this Brice- it wasn't an easy project for this gourd banjo, but you pulled it off in a charming rendition. I'm curious- what do you mean exactly by the horse strings being 'sensitive' ?
Thank you. When you pull the horse hair strings too much, it knocks it out of tune. So, you have to be careful when playing it fingerstyle.
Interesting! Maybe not the best strings for plucking, then? I know they do quite well for bowing.
