Boy, I would love to find a fretted banjo with gut strings tuned to "E/A'. Anybody play one of these or have good ideas?

I have minstrel nylgut strings tuned to A/E on my Luscomb. Can you swap yours out?

I have nylgut on. I believe the scale is too short to properly play with that tuning.

Yea, yours sounds great. Are there 2 types of nylguts? Maybe I do not have Minstrel on mine. Also....what is your scale length?

Yes - the minstrel set are heavier gauge - they won't tune up any higher than A/E. 26" from nut to bridge; 13" pot. The bridge has to be set way back toward the tailpiece.

I'm going to try that. My scale length is more than I thought...almost 27". It does not see like it however, I guess because the bridge is back so far.

I have a 12" pot

Yeah likewise - I thought the scale on mine was shorter until I just measured it. I was surprised.

Well, I am going to re work that string spacing and try the Minstrel Nylguts. Perhaps this is just the berries?

Before you do that, send the grapes haha
