I had the pleasure o playing with Al today. What a sport.....just taking every tune I dished out. We played 3 hrs....minimal breaks, and still had oodles of tunes left. We did all the verses to tunes...great fun. I think I had about 2-3 hrs. of material left. This music is so cool....I love it just for it's own sake.

Ain't it the greatest way to spend a nice day, playing for the folks that stroll by? I was doing the same thing Saturday and Sunday. Its fun to vary the dynamics; catch someone's attention far off, reel ' em in, and then hit 'em with some powerful banjo sounds. In spite of the fact that our host's are paying us we are usually able to set a tip bucket out. On Sunday a faked rendition of "Old Rosin the Bow" satisfied a request and got a $5 bill dropped in. Several times I had the pleasure of really reaching some folks playing old familiar Foster songs and then seeing them head over to the "merch" table (hahaha)) to get a souvenir of the music for home. We can usually do three longish sets before we start to repeat a few. Some folks insist on having pictures taken with the band, usually its little kids but a lot of the adult kids too. This weekend's venue was a village assembled from historic buildings from around the area and there was a lot going on, including some Civil War military stuff. Although most of the people drift in and out of listening range some folks hang out for an entire set and then ask lots of great questions during the breaks.
Lucky passersby, you two !tag:minstrelbanjo.ning.com,2013-09-17:2477478:Comment:997732013-09-17T18:49:25.449ZStrumeliahttp://minstrelbanjo.ning.com/profile/Strumelia
