I'm going to let this recording rest for a while. It needs to be approached fresh and sharp. I need to back off a bit and think of some other things. Re-tooling the repertoire for the summer....thinking of a strong roatation of tunes. The pure joy of just playing it surpasses all. This music sort of comes out different all the time. It "seasons" as we grow. The vocal tunes are the ones to concentrate on. I'll be thinking of some of the very early and not often…

I have been wondering what to do for # 1000. I decided on something very simple....I'll go back and redo my first one. "Sandy Boy"....it will be a good comparison. I know (hope) that things have changed and grown....

D...E...???

I've never questioned it that much. It is good to contemplate it...and explore. I have no opinion or conclusion yet. I do know that until I hear yhe D banjo, E seems plenty low. It is all relative. I enjoy the increaed tension. It helps everything....except the songs that are good in G / D.

Okay......video craziness. Just for contrast, I did 2 versions. One with the banjo tuned to D and one to E. Also, one in E is also the video of the recording, just for comparing camcorder sound to a decent microphone.

I'd like to ask a related question. I'm interested in learning about why did the 4th string pitch become what it is today (in other than minstrel banjo) in relation to the other strings? I believe some refer to this as Elevated 4th string. Is this because the nature of the tunes changed or some other reason?

Anyway, i am playing tunes in E with the Bell 27". Ill post audio and video. My recorded audio is always superior to my sony cam just in the quality. I have a simple mic, but it seems quite true.
