It was a real honor to play at the memorial on a program with so many esteemed speakers. I couldn't help but think that a proper brass band or fife and drums would have been more appropriate (perhaps they were all employed at the battle reenactments) but we were well received and I was proud to do our part to provide the music. I suspect there have always been times, especially on the frontier, when string bands had to substitute for the lack of a more formal music.
