Hi Paul,
Seeing you were from NE Ohio I figured I'd say hello(I'm actually next door in Solon). Just curious, do you play in a band? We're looking for another banjo player in our period sting/minstrel group...
Hi Paul, We started as a group of civil war reenactors but are planning on doing a 19th century civilian impression as well (Maybe trade that cowboy hat for a top hat or derby). I would say we cover the gamut of songs between 1840-1860's but are focused on what would be popular 1861-1865. We do some minstrel tunes, Foster's & Emett's tunes, like Year of Jubilo, Camptown races, Old Susanna, My Old Kentucky home, Dixie, Nelly Bly. Some popular tunes like Lorena, The girl I left behind me, Aura Lee. Some patriotic songs such as Battle Hymm, Marching through georgia, Garry Owen, tramp tramp tramp. We are also covering a few Irish jigs & Reels as well as playing some covers from David kincaid's album Irish Volunteer. I'm a beginner banjo player but primarily play parlor guitar, we have an excellent fiddle player, and a lead singer/tamborine player. We're looking to have a fuller sound with a lead banjo player, potentially some other instruments as well (Bones, mandolin, tin whistle, squeeze box. etc.). We just started about 3 months ago and we're starting to expand the set list. Our fiddle player also plays banjo, but is primarily our fiddle player. We could meet for coffee some time if your're interested...
