The 1870s banjo is finally restored to playing condition. I put a new skin, new tailpiece, new tuning pegs, new bridge, new ebony nut, new strings, new tension hoop, new flesh hoop, and a new ebony 5th string nut. The tailpiece is made by Mark Rolston of Yellowstone Jewelry. ( http://yellowstone-jewelry.com ). The calf skin head by Stewart-MacDonald (https://www.stewmac.com ). It originally had 8 brackets, but by the 1920s, more and newer brackets were added on it along steel strings and a ton of homemade parts including a sheet brass nut, a nail for a pip ,a sheet brass tension hoop, sheet brass flush frets, and homemade tuning pegs.

Thanks for sharing your progress. Looking forward to a demo. Looks great
I wonder at all the hundreds of songs played on that banjo over the many years and the different owners. Wouldn't you like to go back in time to see a scene of it being played, from each decade?
Oh Absolutely.

Just a thought, it be kind of cool if you could, one day, set up a sort of banjo restoration tutorial.
