FYI--I stumbled across a collection of old banjo material on the Hamilton College library site while looking for SS Stewart reference material.  There is a ca. 1893 Stewart catalog, a Stewart banjo instruction brochure, and an 1888 133-page dissertation on the banjo by SS Stewart.  There are also some interesting materials related to other period makes as well.  Everything is downloadable.  Link and description below:
